(NEW YORK) -- Seven Marines were killed during a mortar firing exercise at the Hawthorne Army Depot in Nevada on Monday, according to the Marine Corps.
In a statement Tuesday, the military branch said several others were also injured after "a fatal incident occurred during a training exercise shortly before 10 p.m. Monday."
"The injured have been transported to area hospitals for treatment and further evaluation," the Marine Corps added. The status of their conditions are not yet known.
The seven servicemembers who were killed were all from a Marine battalion based at Camp Lejeune, N.C., and were training at the Nevada facility, a Marine official confirms to ABC News. Their identities will be provided 24 hours after next of kin is notified, the Marine Corps said.
The incident is currently under investigation.
